    Boldly elegant in palmwood

Comeback of an extravagant Art Deco material

Several years ago, a client’s request induced designer and interior architect Nora Gabriele Berger

to research Art Deco interiors – initiating a quiet, yet exciting renaissance of palmwood as a material

for timelessly elegant designer furniture. At the 2016 IMM Cologne Nora Gabriel will for the first time

present extravagant First Class Furniture made of this extraordinary material. Working with palmwood

is as challenging as it is rewarding.

Art deco designer Eugène Printz was famous for his palmwood furniture. Since then, no other designer
has

accorded palmwood a similar degree of mastery and attention.
Due to its challenging nature, the only

palmwood objects to be found on the market today are relatively
crude bowls, floors and doors. But in

addition to its remarkable aesthetic qualities palmwood is also
an ecologically sound alternative to other

tropical woods, as it grows quickly and in abundance.

As an interior architect, Berger had developed excellent contacts to tile and veneer manufacturers
in Africa,

and arranged for palmwood to be shipped directly from the Saharan region. Looking
 for expert woodworkers

in Leipzig, she found Graichen Möbelwerkstätten to be an ideal partner
 for realising her vision:

First Class Furniture – timelessly elegant furniture for the 21st century,
 extravagant palmwood veneer

combined with her very own bold language of forms.
The Power of Palmwood furniture by Design Nora Gabriel

definitely has the potential to turn
into 21st-century classics.
